Diagnosis and Treatment

A physical examination by an allergist or medical physician is the most common way to determine if someone has sinusitis. Other ways of diagnosing sinusitis are allergy testing, x-rays and mucus culture.

Treatment for sinusitis depends on the type of sinusitis. Medications like decongestants, antibiotics and pain relievers may be prescribed to relieve the symptoms of acute sinusitis. For chronic sinusitis, medications or surgery may be recommended.
